~Gil looks back over his shoulder, lifting a questioning brow. "Do you now? because it seems to me you're at my mercy, as long as you have to go where I'm going." he chuckles and continues to walk on, as if she weren't even there, chatting amiably. "so we wake up, and there's a fire. and it's dragonfire, to any that know dragonfire. which Ralean and i do. from experience. he's a dragon slayer you know. or, well, was. and anyway, so we go charging out, as idiots are wont to do, and they're fighting, and I'm shooting at this damn thing. well, it knocks Ralean off the damn wall after it knocks down most of a tower, and it looks none too happy. so here I am, Ralean is wounded and maybe dead, so I panic, and shoot my last arrow. and it takes the damn thing in the eye. so it starts screeching, and spouting flame, and here I am, running to protect Ralean from getting toasted crispy, and..." he stops walking a moment and laughs. "and really, we accomplished nothing."~~

"We seem to be in the heart of all these conflicts, yet I can't think of a single noteworkthy thing I've done since arriving here."~~

"only what I was able to piece together from Ralean afterwards. the dracolich attacked. one group went to defend the library while another attemptd to destroy the dracolich, but the dracolich attacked and burned the library, and a few inside, including ralean's fiance, Lady paige." his voice is soft and low, and he nods again. "that's all I know."~~

~~Gil smiles softly, returning the embrace as best he can with her on his back. "I was tired, and in no mood to castigate lurking soldiers. I guess you just caught me at a good time."

he thinks a moment, and shrugs slightly. "I was orphaned young, and Nexus...it no longer exists. Literally, it stands as a crater. So I assume my family is dead. My brothers of the Boarder Guard...dead as well. Until I found Anthony and Ralean, I was alone. Anthony was our brother...another survivor. We were the last. He died fighting the demon and the dracolich though. So now there are two of us." he shrugs slightly. "Lady Paige was close to a sister when she died at the Golden Library." he looks to Jade with another small shrug of his huge shoulders. "I suppose that means that I have lost those close to me. Aye, and have very little family left. and that would be Ralean." he smiles a little.~~

~~Gil sits himself in the chair, looking much more tired than he was. He smiled complacently to Jade as she starts the fire, his eyes noting the movements and what they meant. He nodded to himself, a lazy movement. He was tired, aye, but more than a little curious as well, and much more alert than he seemed. His practiced air of lazy, charming oafishness was just a comfortable way for people to underestiamte him, an unconscious habit of making himself seem foolish.

as a man accustomed to long nights, and endless weeks of hardship in harsh landscapes, this night was nothing. he would not deny he was tired, but even that was beginning to wane in the face of the pleasant company and his own curiosity. Gil looks around, absently pulling a dagger from his belt and spinning it lazily in his hands, his eyes shining slightly in the dull glow from the fire, he continues to smile, his expression still one of warmth and sleepiness. "So, how is it I've been here for so long, and never happened to see you before?"~~

~she turns and sits on the floor looking up at him.~ " I am very good at hiding and well not drawing attention to myself. Wearing plain clothes or covering my hair or keeping my hair down to cover part of my face." she watched the blade for a moment then looked back at him.

"I have see you many times before just never approached. I have always been good at watching myself. well except tonight...I was too curious and just about ran you over." She pulled her hair out of her ponytail as it had just about fallen out anyway.

"But I am glad I let myself not becareful. Tho I wasn't sure if you would just disreguard me or not that was the moment I held my breath...to see what kind of person you were...*her eyes went to the ground then back up* I was alittle surprise...I know a few people that are from other kingdoms that would have just took me as a servant and just pretended that I was non existant. But you didn't." she smiles softly.

"I have been here for a few years per orders of my mother who thought it would be best to come here for training...but I am not sure being in the ranks here is what I want. I want to learn but all the rules... I am mean I have kinda rules how I live and treat people but am not sure I could follow strict rules. Because there are times when orders don't make sense or something is off about them. I am not sure I could follow them if i didn't believe in them." she chuckles...and shakes her head.

~~Gil casually flips the dagger into his other hand, nodding slightly as she speaks, listening. he grins. "well, I dare say. you running into me would have done a bit more harm to you than myself." he tilts his head and closes his eyes, stifling a small yawn. "You look good with your hair down..." he lets himself drift off, nodding again as she speaks.

"Well, then again, most servants would make a point of getting out of the way." he chuckles, flashing a smile that shows his teeth. "But aye, we're a different sort. The only nobility here is in heart and spirit. Not blood. well, not mine at least." he chuckles, stretching his body out from where he sat in a casual gesture, the movement of the dagger spinning idly in his off hand stopping while he does this, before resuming as he leans forward slightly.

"We keep a disciplined and tight arm on the troops. They need to be prepared, and following orders is essential to an ordered military. or so I've heard. frankly, I'm inclined to agree with you. broad orders with the independence to do as you will to achieve your ends is perhaps the best one can ask for, short of giving the orders themselves. And I've never had much of a mind for large scale strategy. But then again, it doesn't take much skill to guard a border pass."~~

'What you're really asking, is if I'm interested in tearing you from thsi hum-drum boredom you've become so accustomed to, and along the way, maybe teaching you a few tricks of our trade. isn't that about right?" he smiles, leaning forward with one elbow on his knee, his free hand lazily spinning the dagger between his fingers~~
