Searching for Amarra contd...again

Kharne

Kharne knew he was approaching the borders of Icehold, the temerature was dropping sharply with each step. He could hear the distand roar of the thunderlands but he ignored it in favour of noises he could hear closer to hand. By the time he reached the border it was snowing quite heavily and Kharne shook it from his wings occasionaly. Swearing quietly to himself, wondering why anyone would love such low temperatures, Kharne moved off to the side of the road, settling down into a drift and closed his eyes to await the others.

Close to the borders of Icehold the snow drifted lazily towards the ground, the wind had fallen and the world was strangely silent. The road to the Auroran garrison was barely visible with the depth of the snow with massive drifts forming to either side.
One such drift shuddered a little and small clumps rolled away to reveal two golden orbs looking out at the world. They looked both left then right, blinking as though just awakened.
Kharne raised his head clear of he drift and looked around properly, it was approaching dawn and he felt uneasy. His hide was as pale as the snow around him as he stood, shaking his wings clear, though it quickly darkened to its usual bronzed hue. A handy trick of young dragons which he'd most likely have grown out of had he continued with his natural life.
He padded along the forest road until he reached the border and stopped, knowing the stress of the political situation. Kharne sat for a moment and decided to attempt a mind link with his friend.
It was such a simple solution that he'd overlooked it completely when the search began, and he hadn't wanted to give the idea to the others because he knew that Amarra wouldn't have just disappeared without good reason.

"Amarra?"

~sits upright in her bed inside Icehold, the sound of her friend's voice in her mind waking her from a light sleep. She wonders where he is that he could reach her this way, unsure of how far a mental link like this can reach, and if he can sense her thoughts and feelings from wherever he is. Just in case he can't, she tries to keep her response as calm as possible~

"Kharne? Where are you?"

Kharne sighed with relief that his friend was alive and well.

"I'm on the border of Icehold, the others returned to grorr to supply themselves for a longer search. I continued on, though I'm not about to upset Jaric but wandering over there without his permission. What happened? Jared returned in a panic because you'd disappeared."

~doesn't answer right away. She wants desperately to explain things to her old friend, but she is afraid that if she tells him anything, the king and queen of Aegis may take their anger out on him. She doesn't close her mind to him, allowing him to hear those thoughts directly if he is close enough, in the hope that he will understand~

"What do you think the Aurorans will do if they notice a great boneheaded beast skulking around the border? Even worse if you're in your dragon form."

~allows a touch of humor to enter her thoughts before becoming serious again~

"I'm sorry I worried everyone. That isn't how things were supposed to happen. Please, Kharne, have them call of the search. You've found me, I'm fine. And... tell Jared... "

~pauses for a moment as she considers what to say, her heart aching~

"Tell him I'm so sorry, but that I had to. And be there for him. He may not understand. He never has."

~her next thought is barely a whisper, but the emotion behind it is strong and pleading~

Please, Kharne, forgive me.

Kharne chuckled quietly to himself.

"If they saw me here they'd run around panicking and calling upon their gods for guidance on how to deal with a dragon sitting around."
He hadn't heard anything of her thhoughts other than that sent to him directly for he was too far from the Auroran fort.
I'll tell them where you are... staying. They'll ask me why but I'll play the ignorant. I'm used to that. You take care of yourself my friend, and be strong. You're in your element here, after all what is ice if not simply lazy water?
As he rose and turned back along the road his form shimmered, leaving a slightly shorter than average man strolling slowly along with his hands in his pockets as though it were a pleasant summers day.

"Don't get into trouble for my sake. It wouldn't be worth it, not to me. They'll be angry enough without you trying to lie to them. Please be safe."

~knows he will understand which "they" she means.~

"Relax, it's me." was the only response. Faint now as Kharne moved his concentration elsewhere. He glanced up towards the sky for a moment before closing his eyes. Then with a sudden enveloping flare of cold flame he was gone.
