Wait, you're an Auroran noble? Then we shouldn't have any problems.
--She still misunderstood the workings of politics and the already established relationships or lack thereof between the lands. Before meeting everyone at that pub, she could have really cared less about the workings of Aegis or Aurora. In fact, despite basic instinct, she had no idea of the politics involved in a pack of wolves. Clearly she was missing out! This business is all troublesome, yet exciting.--
Think of it as an adventure, Ralean. It'll be fine. _________________ My mission... to steal Vlad's cookies >_>
~Ral shrugs slightly. "Adventure can be highly overrated. As it is, i'm about due for a break. I still haven't fully recovered from the last wonderful adventure." he chuckles at the thought, flexing the fingers of his left hand, thanking the magic and his quick healing for allowing the broken bone to heal quickly and properly.~ _________________ "Failure is not in my eyes, but in the eyes of others. By the time Kharne left Grorr keep he was in full sprint. Dashing through the main keep doors he spotted a wagon pulled up near the wall and veered towards it. He leapt just as he reached it and used his momentum to vault high into the air where his wings took form, erupting through his tunic.
He quickly gained altitude and veered into his true form. Much the better to glide as he occasionally breathed flame to superheat the air beneath him.
He followed the main road towards Icehold, drifting towards the ground so as better to spot Amarra if she were there. It wasn't long before he spotted two figures ahead, one on horseback. There before them was the shape of the womans familiar. He began to glide in for a landing with a minimum of flame slowing his descent so as not to damage the brush beneath him. _________________ My Deviant Art page
Oh, I didn't know. Shouldn't you have taken a break, then? Or does your line of work not allow for that, too?
--And at that moment, she heard something odd coming from the sky. Both Lyca and Tala looked up in surprise, only to find a dragon coming towards them--
Grah! what the..!
--Tala bolted into the thick trees, along with Lyca, to avoid the wrath of the beast. She didn't know it was Kharne. The movement of air didn't allow her or Lyca to pick up on the familiar scent.--
Ralean, look out! _________________ My mission... to steal Vlad's cookies >_>
~Ral laughs. "A break? m'lady...this is as close to a break as I get. I suppose I could find a way, but I do have a duty as well."
As Tala yells, Ral's sword leaves it's scabbard and he wheels his horse. upon seeing the flames, he curses softly, struggling to control his horse, slipping his feet to the edge of his stirrups for a quick dismount in case of trouble, and turns broadside to the flames, facin towards them, sword arm facing. This was either Kharne, or Charaan. On one hand a welcome companion on the other...well, his arm still ached slightly, and he was having what seemed to be a very rough night. he prepares himself to evade an attack and waits, his nerves firing~ _________________ "Failure is not in my eyes, but in the eyes of others. Kharne slowed to a stop, eyeing Ralean for a moment as he folded his wings against his sides. He nodded his armoured head a little before speaking.
"Be at ease Ralean, Chaaran is half again my size though I appologise for startling you both."
He padded closer, realising that he was most likely seemed bigger in the dark than his thirty-five foot length.
"Ava told me to search as far as the Icehold borders for Amarra."
He looked towards the trees for the woman and her wolf, sniffing the air and catching their scents.
"You should teach her that hiding in among a lot of wood won't help against Chaaran." _________________ My Deviant Art page
--Tala snorted in laughter once realizing that this Dragon creature was in fact Kharne. She removed herself from the thick of the forest and shrugged.--
Well I was more worried about being crushed or picked up than burned at that moment... so..touche.
Uhm, Kharne, right?
--Lyca and herself picked up on the familiar scent once the air settled a bit more. Her question was more for a confirmation than anything.-- _________________ My mission... to steal Vlad's cookies >_>
Kharne raised a forepaw, placing it against his armoured plates on his chest.
"Aye, I got changed before catching up. I understand I may seem a little taller than you saw before." He chuckled for a moment, causing a strange broken noise somewhere between a purr and a growl to emerge from his throat.
Even then his subconcious was cataloging the host of scents which remained in the area. The wind mostly blew them this way and that but closer to the ground they tended to linger. Horses had definitely passed this way other than Raleans, but that didn't tell him much. The riot of scents, while his sense of smell wasn't quite that of some canines, could almost bee seen to him like patches of what colour might sound like. Unlike dogs and wolves, however, he wasn't relying entirely on instinct and had the sentience to filter out the background smells.
"I can't cross the border Ralean, and I can't see Jaric being overly happy with me banging on his door saying Oi we've lost a dutchess have you seen her."
He eyed the woman again. "Most Aurorans tend to be a pretty formal bunch." _________________ My Deviant Art page
~Ral grins, patting the rose tucked into his belt. "But I am a welcome guest. as much as they love formality, it will make them let me in. With any honored guest I choose, i suppose."~ _________________ "Failure is not in my eyes, but in the eyes of others. Where they see me fall, I see myself learning to stand." -PTRB
--Tala and Lyca both eyed the dragon with amusement. She even laughed about his comment on what to say if Jaric answered the door. Her attention was then turned to Ralean and his comment.--
Do they have high walls or something, restricting a flying dragon to enter? I wouldn't think they do...Kharne, could you not just fly...?
--It seemed so easy. How would they stop a dragon from entering Aurora?-- _________________ My mission... to steal Vlad's cookies >_>
Kharne tilted his head a little.
"Look back to your reaction when I landed, then imagine that reaction made by a garrison full of soldiers. Legally Icehold is Auroran land and given the scene at the ball I don't want to strain things any more."
He sighed a little before continuing.
"I have to be careful in my true form with Chaaran out there, he is not bound by the oath."
With that Kharne began moving along the road, continually sniffing the air. _________________ My Deviant Art page
~Ral grins. "Not a garrison of just any soldiers. nervous aurorans with ballista. Not healthy for anyone of the wrong side of those walls." he shrugs slightly. "We can only do our best besides. And if Charaan decides to pay a visit...well, he's ruined his fair share of moments." his eyes and voice harden slightly at the last words~ _________________ "Failure is not in my eyes, but in the eyes of others. --She didn't understand any of it. But by the way things sounded, nobody was quite ready to face Aurora. --
Well anyway, Kharne, we were just heading that way. We have our own idea of where Amarra may be, so we're going to pursue that route. Should we get some rest, though? And start again in the morning? I have a feeling that if we just rush into Aurora, we might be out of strength by the time we get there.
--She was getting hungry, too. That morsel of food didn't last as long as she had hoped. --
By the way you talk about Aurora, we may need it... _________________ My mission... to steal Vlad's cookies >_>
~Ral chuckles. "Icehold, m'lady, is NOTHING like Aurora, even with the magic and snow. It is simply a child's playground in ice compared to the lands of winter." he glances to Kharne and shrugs his shoulders. "However, as cold as it is, we'll need to at least dress the part. two of us will at least." he nods to himself. "and perhaps find Jared and Giligian, to let them know where we're going, so they don't mount search parties for us as well."~ _________________ "Failure is not in my eyes, but in the eyes of others. Kharne paused and turned to face Ralean.
"Good point, I hate the cold." he muttered quietly.
Having been born draconic he had his species tolerance of incredibly high temperatures. A being who breathed fire would continually be burning off half of their face. In the cold, however, most dragons could barely tolerate colder climates than unprotected humans.
Of course Kharne couldn't really be harmed by the cold now but he still wasn't too keen on it.
"If you want I'll keep on as far as the border. I'll wait there until you return with suitable atire. Or we could all head back for now." He sat then, looking more feline in form than reptile. _________________ My Deviant Art page
--Tala wasn't really all too concerned with the cold. It was more the fact that the cold often either scared off or killed off a lot of species of animals. So she ought to get her hunting in before braving the cold.--
Icehold.. Aurora.. either way, a rest is in order. We wont be catching up to Amarra tonight anyway. I don't know about you guys, but I'll be on my way to put in a good hunt and rest. If you're going on, I'll catch up to you later.
--It was getting annoying just standing and talking. They were getting no rest, nor making headway towards Icehold. If anything was to be done around here, she'd have to do it herself.. or at least initiate it.-- _________________ My mission... to steal Vlad's cookies >_>
~Ral thinks a moment. "perhaps you can find Giligian and jzred, and tell them our plans, and we can meet back at the keep to perpare for the intolerably long journey? we'll all need good clothes, and a decent rest before we start. Although Jared may not see it that way."~ _________________ "Failure is not in my eyes, but in the eyes of others. Where they see me fall, I see myself learning to stand." -PTRB
--And with that, Tala darted off into the woods, instructing Lyca to find Giligian and Jared. If the opportunity arose, perhaps she'd take down a deer while she was at it. -- _________________ My mission... to steal Vlad's cookies >_>
~Ral glances to her as she goes, and then looks at Kharne with a shrug. "She's a strange one, and I'm not quite sure what to make of that yet." he gives a soft laugh with a grin. "But she's not nearly as serious as the rest of us, and such naivete is welcome in times like these, don't you think? A war could have started today, sne she is worried about hunting."~ _________________ "Failure is not in my eyes, but in the eyes of others. Where they see me fall, I see myself learning to stand." -PTRB
Kharne sighed a little before he spoke.
"I used to be the same. It was easier then, even when I was just a guardian."
He offered a draconic shrug which seemed to say it all really. He wanted the time to just take his daughter away and teach her anything and everything he was able, yet here he was trapped in a position responsible for the ruling of a city.
"We have to see the bigger picture, but I tend to make mistakes becuase I try to see the little one at the same time." _________________ My Deviant Art page
~Ral nods himself. "I miss those days. Innocence is like a glass ball." he laughs, a soft, low, sad sound. "Everything seems easier when you don't need to see the whole picture. But, if not us, my friend, then who?"~ _________________ "Failure is not in my eyes, but in the eyes of others. Where they see me fall, I see myself learning to stand." -PTRB
Kharne nodded at Raleans words.
"All too true." He sighed faintly as he looked back towards Icehold.
"We'd best get a move on, see what everyone is doing. I'll carry on along the road and continue looking. I'll wait for you at the border so you can move faster when ready." _________________ My Deviant Art page
~Ral nods again. "I will ride swiftly, my friend. Hopefully there will be rest soon." he snaps his horse around with a final salute to Kharne, and moves back the way he'd come~ _________________ "Failure is not in my eyes, but in the eyes of others. Where they see me fall, I see myself learning to stand." -PTRB
Rest. Kharne didn't need it, but he was hungry. He considered the possibility of taking some livestock on his way. He'd pay for it of course, he didn't feel like putting some farmers business at risk. He returned Raleans salute with a nod of his head and watched the man ride away.
Kharne liked Ralean, it was hard not to. The human had endured hardships that gave him every right to hate dragons more that Kharne had once disliked humans. Yet he didn't retreat into bitterness like Kharne had for a while.
Kharne let out a faint sigh as he turned and moved along the road towards Icehold, his nose held close to the ground.~ _________________ My Deviant Art page
