Hilda had already toured the tavern, hoping at any moment she would get a few people in, even if it were for just a drink. Over and over she had gone over her instructions in her head, remembering where keys were, the drinks, simple matters to make her seem like she's worked there forever. With damp cloth in hand, she stood behind the bar, polishing the already spotless bar counter. Her eyes casually watched the windows for passer by's, and potential weary customers. Her first day, and she was feeling rather bored.
(He entered the inn, instructing the guard that had insisted on following him to remain outside. He approached the barkeep with a scrap of paper in his hand.)
"Good day to you madam. I might wonder if I could trouble you by asking you to display this in your tavern for me?"
She happened to look upon the door as a man entered, and noted what looked like a guard standing just outside. She figured the man ought to be of some importance. Either an important guest or one of the Dukes, so she was told about.
"Good day to you, Sir."
She smiled in a friendly manner, and slightly bowed her head. He handed her the piece of paper and she read over it briefly before nodding.
"Of course, I'll post it where everyone may see it. Now if only I had some skills, I would enter myself. "
She smirked, then took a pin from her hair and stuck the paper to a wooden post by the bar.
"Anything else I can do for you, Sir, a drink perhaps?" _________________
"You see thats the beauty of it, the competition will be tests of wits that have never been seen before, which is the universal appeal. You should participate, the more people who participate, the greater the prize fund, and the more money raised for the city."
(He stroked his chin)
"An ale does sound tempting..." _________________ Dream as if you will live forever

"I should hope not, but the whole point im trying to underline, is that everyone has an equal chance of winning. I could order you to participate you know, but I guess there'd be no fun in that. Think it over, what's the worst that could happen? You lose some money, but it goes to the city in the end." _________________ Dream as if you will live forever

"No I will not be, as I will be devising the games. I will be contributing financially though." _________________ Dream as if you will live forever

"If you would be so kind in satisfying my curiosity, Sir, I'm wondering why you don't have a servant handing out these flyers for you. Don't get me wrong, but it would seem to me like a rather tedious job for a Duke." _________________
"Just because im a Duke doesn't mean im better than anyone else, I dont mind doing my fair share of the work. Besides, getting out and around is essential for me as well, I need to know whats going on from time to time, and reports are often so.... clumsy." _________________ Dream as if you will live forever

"The main reason i'm a Duke is because another associate of mine ran his mouth that little bit too far - but that's a story for another time."
(He motioned to his tankard)
"Not quite yet, im still drinking, but thank you."
(He looked a little more deeply at her, as if gauging her)
"So tell me, what is your name stranger? And how did you come to be in Salarain? And please by all that is good and holy, don't worry about formalities - there is a time and place for that, and this is not one of those times." _________________ Dream as if you will live forever

"Hilda Asgarte. I was actually born here... and just recently found work at this tavern. And I apologize, Sir. Force of habit."
Her shoulders seemed less tense after his words, but she didn't think, by right of character, that she would put aside formalities so easily. After all, in her profession, she was supposed to be professional to her customers. _________________
"Well in any event, its nice to meet you Hilda. It's good for me to get to know some of the local patrons, after all, its people like yourself who really keep the town running."

She bowed her head and smiled at their first 'greet.'
"Why thank you, Sir. "
Hilda put aside the cloth, deciding she wasn't doing much good with it in her hands.
"Have you got time? I mean.. if you're in no rush I would love to hear about how you became a Duke. I don't hear much about politics over here, it seems I miss any news there could be."
Hilda bit her lip in modesty, but rather hoped he would talk a bit more. _________________
((Sorry if I'm butting in here, but i wanted to visit a tavern, and this seemed like a good thread to do so.))
He walks through the streets of Salarain, his hood once more up, his face shielded against prying eyes.
His eyes dart around as he surveys the buildings around him, looking for what he needs, then he spots his prey and he stops to watch for a moment. Yes, that could do very nicely.
There was a tavern just a few doors along, so he briskly walked over towards it. He noted the guard outside and hoped he wouldn't have any trouble as he opened the doors and walked in.
He spotted the Duke at the bar, talking to the only member of serving staff that he could see, maybe there were more out the back. He walked with a confident stride to the bar, a few paces away from the Duke, then lowered his hood.
He nodded as the serving girl came over.
"A mug of mead, please, and." He paused just long enough before continuing
"and some information please. Do you know who i would contact with regards the vacant shop premises just down the road?"
(He motioned for her to pour him a small glass of the mead, and he sniffed it a little before swigging it down)
"The vacant shop? The previous tenant died in the Dracolich attack, or so i'm told. What sort of estabishment would you want to run there?" _________________ Dream as if you will live forever

Hilda smirked, then as the Duke motioned for more mead, she gave him some. Then she merely began to clean the bar top while the men spoke. _________________
(Sorry for the delays. Not good for a newbie, is it? )
Once more he nodded very slightly at hearing about the Dracolich attack.
"I was hoping to offer my services to the public. Help them to find missing persons, track down unfaithful husbands or wives, or just keep an eye on certain people. All for a price, of course. I don't know if there any outlets for these services already, but maybe a large store front might help to... encourage.. people and help reassure them that my services are legitimate."
He glanced over to the bar maid, then to the Duke.
(Sorry again, I'm back on a more permanent basis now)
"Well if you think you could make a good job if it, I don't see why you can't be given an opportunity. The city has enough stores, but a... citizens advice structure, could be of great benefit." _________________ Dream as if you will live forever
