(He produces a canteen of water from under the desk, and then 2 glasses, motioning for him to help himself if he is thirsty, while pouring a small amount for himself and sipping it)

He waits for the duke to have visibly swallowed the water before sipping his own in return, and hoping the Duke didn't notice his inital hesitation; or if he did, that he didn't think it a matter of distrust.
"I would be honoured to join you, but first, if you have time, perhaps you could tell me a little more about the dignatories of the realm."
He knew of course that if the Duke was in a hurry, the conversation could continue while on the move.
"Im in no hurry. In fact I wish I didn't have to go to the capital at all....anyway, ill tell you what you want to know.
Theres myself, and also Lord Kharne who have jurisdiction here in Salarain. Kharne is an honorable man, but youl find him to be a bit more "divine" than most.
In the city of Grorr, you'll find Duke Ralean in charge. A dragonslayer so they say. I have great respect and admiration for him, though there is an element of "mystique" around him.
In Draco, Duchess Amarra runs things. It's also the home of the Aegian Mage school, which is recently under new management...."
(He scowled, how he wished one of Rensain's spells would catastrophically backfire....)
"Anyway, Rensain is now in charge there. He is one of the Realm's more.... colourful characters, to say the least. He and I are not on good terms, though any business you do with him is your own, and I will not pass judgement or interfere.
Marloc also has an element of Mystique, and truth be told I am not sure about much that goes on there.
Finally there is Icehold. This is part of the ancient realm of Aurora, and not a true part of Aegis. Still, the Aurorans are our allies, and pending you have sufficient business to discuss upon your arrival there, you shouldnt be afraid to go there. Dont waste Lord Jaric's time though - he despises timewasters."
(He finished the rest of his water in one gulp)

He leaned forward in his chair as the Duke began talking, taking in all the information and sipping his water.
His eyes narrowed slightly as the information came thick and fast, more than he could have gleaned from visiting taverns. Once the duke had finished he paused for a moment.
"So, keep my nose clean in the other cities and I'll be fine"
He smiled to show his sense of humour.
"Now, shall we depart and you can show me the fine capital?"
He didn't want appear to be giving the Duke an order, more a suggestion.
"Watching? you'll be doing more than watching. If you work for me I can fund your entry. Think of this as a way to get yourself on the Aegian map. Its all even, so you will be on a level field with everyone else. I'm on my way to the capital to deliver a personal announcment. He blinked his suprise at being offered entry into the competition. he had thought about watching from a distance to gauge the other contestants for later knowledge. But then again, if he was up close and personal.
Well, he hadn't expected to find his way intot he inner sanctum so quickly, looked like his luck was in for the time being.
"Of course M'Lord. I wouldn't deny the opportunity to help out for the good of the city."
He smiled.
"I will of course do my very best. I hear the Queen has a short temper, so i best be on my best behaviour."
He remembered his original comments to the Duke, thinking the man a drunk.
