Dismounted from his horse and handed him to a nearby stableboy. He looked up at the old mage school in fondness. It had been a long time since he had been a student here himself. He wondered if Maraiana was still headmistress.

Still, it was not Maraiana that he was there to explain himself to. He approached a nearby student and requested that they notify Duchess Amarra and Mariana of his arrival. Patiently, he waited by the doors, casually leaning against one of the tall pillars.

~receives word from a student that someone is waiting for the duchesses at the doors. With a curious frown, wondering who could be there, she sets aside her paperwork to a corner of her desk and leaves her office, making sure to close and lock the door behind her. She smooths her skirts out of habit as she makes her way down the hall to the doors, her step faltering once as she sees who is standing there.

She clears her throat softly, suddenly feeling nervous, more than a little uncertain at where their relationship stands after so long. Should she be formal, or would that offend him? Or would it offend him if she is not formal? In the end, she opts for neutralality. She is mostly composed, though she figits a bit with her fingers, and there is an obvious nervous hesitancy in her voice~

Had his hands in his pocket, and had begun to whistle whilst he waited. When Jared saw her, he stood straight. For a few moments, he stared. Being as she had adopted a more formal stance, he felt he had no choice but to do the same, and he wondered if this also meant she was still angry with him.

"Duchess Amarra."

Nods, taking his hands out of his pockets.

"Thank you for welcoming me back to Meriddia. I'm not here on a royal visit, just merely to..."

Paused for the right phrase. Companionship? Friendly business? You?

"..To assess the damage done to the Golden Library."

Doh!

~bites her lip and smiles faintly, though it is forced. She can't help but feel disappointed. Despite herself, part of her had hoped he'd come to see her. A large part. She cringes inwardly, wondering if he'll blame her for the Library's destruction as so many others seem to~

Oh. Well... I can take you to the site, or we can wait for Duchess Maraina, if you'd prefer. We have left the area as a swamp instead of immediately rebuilding, so you'll be able to see the damage clearly.

Decided to press on with what he wanted to say.

"There is another reason I am here. I think its time we finished our talk from the other eve. Unless you think there is nothing left to say? If so, then I will drop the matter."

His eyes stayed focused on hers, waiting for her to make the decision. His demenor seemed different, his eyes were not as soft as they once were. Now, they had the view of a man who had seen more than he should have.

~pauses for a moment to think, though her thoughts are racing. Her quarters would be more comfortable, but she's not sure that would be appropriate, especially when she isn't at all sure what's going to happen with their talk~

I suppose my office will have to do, then.

Gives a sharp nod, following her down the corridor. Upon reaching their destination, he steps inside and shuts the door after her. For a few moments he paused, just watching her.

"I meant no disrespect to you, when I left the way I did. I admit that I made a mistake to not tell you, but I knew things would be much more difficult if I had."

~sighs softly and motions to the chairs clustered around a small table on the other side of the room from her desk. She takes a seat on one and folds her hands in her lap to keep from figiting~

I wouldn't have stopped you from going. We all have our duties, even if those we care about don't like them all the time.

Could feel his blood boil, not anger at Amarra - but himself. Yet again, he had made a wrong decision although it felt right at the time. He took steps towards the window, unable to look at her.

"Bathory never changes. Once she expressed her dismay over us...any change of heart would have been merely a game. Or...so I would have thought. At the time - I thought what I did; was what was best, although now... I am not so sure."

Quietly exhaled.

We all do the wrong things sometimes, even when we think we're doing what's right. But if we dwell on that, we can never move on.

What you need to do now is decide how you want to move on.
