The Temple at Mt. Kaye (A Clever Deception)

Melchiah

The Seven Sohe'im stood arched around the great fire at the back of the temple. Melchiah, robed in crimson and red and in human guise, stood hooded outside at the temples entrance. Anticipation wracked his mind. He kept watch for Angel on the distant horizon. The Cold Gray-Violet of the early morning was giving way to the orange and pinks of sunrise.

Outside the temple, all had been set. The Sohe'im stood, masks adorning their shattered visages, all covered in pristine white capes and cowls, hoods masking all inhumanity.

Standing upon a pedestal that used to house a great pillar was Melchiah, his form distinctly human and attractive. His shorn head covered in serpentine and woadlike patterns. He wore beautiful and ceremonial robe, fine blackened leather boots. All a charm indeed. He knew not who would come with the girl, and he knew that their length in responding marked skepticism. As long as they came, however, he was nigh certain that his plan would succeed.

The alcove of the temple's entrance was seemingly carved into the side of the great mountain. During the suns ascent and the moon's descent, its grand chamber would be set alight via a small light shaft leading from the temples heart to the outside of the mountain. A decidedly dwarven technique borrowed by proximity to their sovereign halls.

The worshippers of this temple were all long gone, and the temple had been before used as a dumping ground for victims of assassination. Melchiah knew this, as he fed upon the priests and the corpses of the murdered for years before his entrance into Aegis.

"Soon it begins, this war." He said, and he returned to the temple interior to prepare.

Had been travelling for sometime upon a horse with two guard escorts. She looked relieved upon seeing the temple at last.

"I think this must be it..."

Glances to her guard and nods to him as an indication. She stares at the temple for a few moments before kicking her horse once more. It begins to canter closer still.

"I hope they are still there...perhaps I am too late???"

Upon nearing even more, the temple sent a shiver across her spine. It began to look more intimidating in size. The sun looked ready to go down, and she pondered on making camp outside until morning. Biting her lip, she couldn't make up her mind. Pulling the letter once more from her pouch she re-reads it again.

After hearing of the approaching group, he hurried outside. He raised his simple wooden staff, a long ash root, and its great tip glowed with a blue guiding light.

"Yess...come to me." He spoke aloud.

Glanced up from the letter and smiles nervously to the priest.

"H..hello..I assume you are the person who wrote this letter?"

She glanced to the twin knights Sansa and Elena before approaching Melchalai. She dismounted and reached out to shake his hand.

"I thank you for contacting me."

He took her by the hand. "Hello, Angel." He spoke. His voice was smooth and silken, his feautres comely. A stark and deadly contrast to the vicious scales and fangs beneath. His hand was soft as he took hers and he knelt to kiss it. Looking up he smirked. "Milady, our lord was definately not wrong to hold feeling for you."

He raised to his feet again and put an arm around her shoulders. Two of the white robed Sohe'im came out after a click of his tongue. "My wards will help your guards become comfortable, but only you will be allowed in the grand chamber.

He began leading her into the temple. "You know, the Circle of Nine has been a secret service to the Arneat line since the kingdom began. We had been searching for our King since the fall of our kingdom decades ago. When a scout learned of his loss of power and eventual murder by your lord, we were distressed."

In his head, Melchiah laughed. 'That sounded true,' he remarked silently to his own mind.

Melchiah did not wince at being question He also knew that this thin veil of deception was wearing away quickly. He only needed pull the ploy until they reached the main chamber, just a few meters away now. Once inside he would bolt the doors and the portal could be opened. Victory for him was nearly at hand but he maintained his cool.

Pauses and reaches out desperately to Mel. It was a sharp turn as she put her hands on his shoulder.

"His last thoughts? Oh dear gods, what were his last thoughts? No..no, I shouldn't ask, its probably best I do not know."

Becomes a little teary.

He looked at her hand on his shoulder. And nodded his head. The door to the chamber shut closed, a wisp of cold cavernous air gushing past. This seemed normal until one could hear the great lock clicking into its place. A greatly forboding sound.

"His last thoughts, they were far too many and painful."

He took on a hurt look.

We are ready to begin, all we must do is step up to the alter. I'm sure your guards can allow you a mote of open space.

Puts a hand upon the hilt of her sword. She glances to the twins as they speak and nods at their advice.

"I am inclided to agree with my escorts. Whats going on here? Why lock us in?"

He took a few steps back hurriedly. The deception was over and had served its purpose, yet the priest could not help but see that something was hidden up this girls sleeve. He moved to the alter and removed a flask from his belt, which he threw to the ground, a large clap signalling the opening of a rift between spaces. Through the inside one could clearly see the interior of the F'tallian stronghold.

"Milady. Welcome to the dawn of war." He nodded as the Seven bodyguards all drew weapons, and he too drew his, as he did so a great fog surrounded him, burning away to reveal the Naga within, gold plated and blessed armor covering every scale.

"Your death or capture awaits you, lady of the Snowlands. You are outnumbered and within minutes the elves of F'tallian will join us. Resist and let the earth take you. Cooperate and all will be well."

Gasps at Mel's declaration. She found her heart pounding, yet her eyes narrowed. This time she couldn't allow fear to get in the way. Her grip tightened upon the sword, she withdrew it, the bright white flames aglow. Passionately she begins to utter words of guidence as she charges towards Mel, sword at the ready.

She didn't take a strike him, leaving that to the twins if they so chose. Instead she curiously eyed up the portal he had made.

~ The twin paladins clsoe quickly, their blades sweeping in front of them to strike the target, one aimed for the neck, the other with a thrust to the groin.

The large doors groan a final time as the lock snapps under the force of the ram, a dozen heavily armored men rushing into the room with weapons ready and moving to engage the enemy closing in on the trio in the center of the room.~

Melchiah flipped backwards from the triage of attacks. He looked back quickly to the portal, and then to the twelve men pouring into the room. His eyes then went to Angel and her sword. Thinking it to be that which it was not, Melchiah sent a mind link to his master.

MASTER! The girl is here with a squadron. I believe she is wielding the general's sword! What should I do?!"

He prepared to brace for an assault.
Four of the sohei'im turned to face the coming onslaught. The other three continued to Angel and the two other Paladins. Their swords came down in unison, cleaving at the crook of the neck.

Made sure her back was against Sansa and Elana (The twins). Sword at the ready, she was confident that she could fight anything that came close. She held it high on the defense to block any swings, the flames glorious against the dimness of the temple. She shouts at Mel

"I knew it was a trap!!! How DARE you use Darius' name!"

Began to feel fury at the betrayal.

~ The paladins push forward, their charge easily braking past the four things ahead of them to allow the bulk of the force to enter the room, they quickly pair off against the four creatures in the doorway, the remaining four Knights rushing the last three from behind, the group collectively chanting their battle prayers, their holy swords taking on a white glow in the light of the fires from Angel's divine weapon~

~ As the creatures swing their blades the twins bring their sheilds to bear in the path of the oncoming stroke, blocking them easily, and thrusting their blades toward the now exposed and easily struck chests of their assailants.~

Two of the Sohe'im are struck down, black blood spurting forth from their pierced chests, the others are more lucky, and roll out of the way bringing their blades swiftly to to the rear of the twins, one at the back of the knee and the other piercing towards the midsection.

Mel and the two Sohe'im next to him assume a delta formation.

It took only a moment for Melchiah to realize his abandonment. Inside his blood boiled. And hate boiled in his guts. He let out a screech of rage.

"FLEE!"

He turned tail, along with his two minions to the portal, leaving the others behind to their fates. His plan was a failure, and he was further a disgrace.

Before he entered the portal, however. He turned to Angel, the vacuum of matter around him creating a great wind in his immediate area. "Is that the blade which my master fears?" He shouted.

Looks on in disbelief at the priest who had given orders to flee. Angel saw him head towards the portal. She made sure the twins had her covered before heading that way also - stopping in her tracks only when Mel turns and asks his question. Her sword was at the ready, and wind whipped about her, howling. Her voice carried over it.

"Yes, and I'll take down every last one of you..."

Her tone indicated that she meant it, even if deep down, she felt very much the amature.

He grined, needle-like fangs growing apparent.

"Then I may just forget to close this portal, and we shall round this day out with an even number of betrayals."

He turned heel then and ran through the void, appearing on the other end in F'tallian's grand chamber.

Was confused, but didn't take the time to ponder the logic's of the situation. She took a quick glance back to the twins and nods to them. Turning back to the portal she goes through it....stepping in beside the priest in the grand throne room of F'tallian.

=Kinsen stood with the other knights, blade drawn. he starts forward with Angel, the crescent on his face a burning crimson, seeming to glow of its own, his eyes almost black. he is dressed differently than the others, his armor being breastplate and cahin rather than the usual full plate, and no helm. there is a mace at his hip, and his blade rests freely in his hand, opposite his shield. his eyes quickly scan the room, and come to rest on Angel as she moves through the portal. without hesitation he steps forward after her, quickly, one again ready to face the demon...=
