Dear Mara.
I do a stressful job, and alway do my best. However I appear to be overlooked all the time. I am on the bottom rung of the corporate ladder and have never been asked for promotion. I sometimes wonder if my boss even knows I am here. I have never been on a high profile assignment before, whilst most of the people I trained with have gone on to do bigger and better things.
Please help.
1) Do Something to Stand Out: Whether its finding a way to cut costs in the workplace or finding a more efficient way to schedule your department, do something that will make your boss take notice of you - but make sure its in a good way.
2) Don't Be Indispensible: Often, people think being indispensible is the way to get promoted - wrong!! Being indispensible is the surest way to stay in your current position for eternity, because who are they going to replace you with...
3) Learn New Skills: Learning new skills that can be used in the workplace is a great way to get noticed, and a must if you want to be promoted...
4) Talk to Your Boss: Your Boss is probably not a mind-reader (unless you work in Draco), but even so, nothing says "I want more responsibility" like walking up and saying it. At least give them a chance to give it to you, or if they turn you down, find out why and correct the situation.
If after all these things they still don't notice you, recognize you or give you what you need - its time to find a new career.
Good Luck,
Mara
P.S. When all else fails, throw something... _________________ Magick is the essence of life, and life the essence of magick
