Dear Mara

I find that I have been developing feelings for a man who is above my station. I do not know if he shares these feelings, and I am afraid to seem disrespectful or too forward if I were to express them on my own. How might I make my feelings known without causing either of us trouble, or should I not bother at all?

Sincerely,
Confused

Dear Confused,

There are lots of little ways to make your interest known without "endangering" yourself.

1. Be attentive - listen to what he has to say, anticipate his needs, etc. Those kinds of things are always appreciated and show affection.

2. Be present - it is difficult to "overlook" affection if it is constantly in front of you.

3. Say it with your eyes - the eyes are the doorway to the soul; a look here and there can go a long way to telling this man what you want to say without words.

Make sure you pick up on his signals as well. He might be sending you "I'm interested" too, or "Go away, I'm not interested" signals - don't miss them.

Avoid the cliches of anonymous letters and gifts. They are spooky and ill-contrived, making one think they are being followed by someone and often make the receipient uneasy, especially if they don't know who it comes from. No sense in another receiving credit for your effort, now is there?

Finally, this is Aegis. There is rarely such a thing as "above" or "below" the station. If this is the path you want then do everything you can to get it...

Good luck.

Mara

P.S. When all else fails - throw something...
